Introduction

The Indian Society of Dental Traumatology (ISDT) is proud to introduce its flagship Fellowship in Dental Traumatology (FISDT) program. This structured, merit-based certification is designed to recognize clinical expertise, academic excellence, and a commitment to advancing the science and art of dental trauma care in India. The fellowship designation represents a distinguished mark of competence and professional standing within the field.

Objectives of the Fellowship Program

The ISDT Fellowship aims to:

  • Enhance the value of ISDT membership by offering a prestigious and structured certification pathway.
  •  Provide accessible recognition to Indian dental practitioners with a keen interest and experience in dental traumatology.
  • Establish peer-reviewed credibility, serving as a testament to the recipient’s knowledge and skills in dental trauma management.
  • Promote clinical excellence and continued learning in the field of dental trauma.
  • Foster a community of leaders and mentors in dental traumatology.

Why Become an ISDT Fellow?

Fellows of the ISDT are entitled to:
• Use the post-nominal title “FISDT”, signifying professional distinction.
• Receive a formal certificate of fellowship.
• Access exclusive fellowship events and networking opportunities during ISDT
conferences.
• Be eligible for appointment to ISDT committees and working groups.
• Be considered for speaker slots at ISDT events.
• Contribute to the mentorship of aspiring fellows.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must fulfill both of the following criteria at the time of application:
• A minimum of 5 years of life membership with ISDT.
• Presentation in at least two ISDT national conferences or symposiums. The
presentation may be in the form of a scientific paper, poster, or as an invited/keynote
speaker. (Proof of presentation must be uploaded at the time of registration.)

Examination Structure

The fellowship assessment consists of two stages:

Part I – Online MCQ Examination

Format: 50 MCQs to be attempted online within 60 minutes. The exam link will be sent to the registered email ID one or two weeks prior to the exam.
Mode: Conducted online in a secure, proctored environment
Content: Focus on diagnosis, aetiology, pathogenesis, treatment planning, and evidence-based management of dental traumatic injuries.
Syllabus includes but is not limited to:
          o Andreasen’s Textbook of Dental Traumatology and other standard text books
          o IADT, IAPD, AAE Guidelines.

Passing Criteria: 60% (No negative marking)

Part II – Case Portfolio and Oral Examination

Only candidates who qualify Part I will be eligible.

Mode: In-person examination held one day before the ISDT Annual National Conference (typically March/April).
Case Portfolio:
            o Submission of five well-documented cases (including clinical and radiographic records) of different types of dental traumatic injuries, each managed appropriately and followed up for a minimum duration of SIX months, selected from the following types:
                     1. Management of luxation injury (among extrusive, intrusive, lateral or avulsion).
                     2. Management of complicated crown fracture
                     3. Management of uncomplicated crown fracture
                     4. Management of crown root fracture or horizontal root fracture
                     5. Management of immature apex management or multiple injuries or any other trauma related special case or diagnostic dilemma.
             o Each case will be evaluated on:
                    ▪ Clinical documentation (photographs and radiographs/CBCT)
                    ▪ Diagnostic accuracy
                    ▪ Treatment rationale and execution
                    ▪ Treatment outcome (follow up)

Oral Examination:
             o Conducted by a panel of 2–3 external experts.
             o Focus on case defense, rationale, literature support, and clinical reasoning.

Scoring: Based on a 50-mark rubric.
Passing Criteria: 60%.
            o Only the score obtained in Part II will be considered for the final awarding of the fellowship.

Re-examination Policy

  • Candidates who do not clear Part I will be granted a one-time exemption from the Part I examination fee if they choose to reattempt next year.
  • Candidates who do not clear Part II will be allowed one additional attempt to appear for Part II without repeating Part I. However, the Part II examination fee will beapplicable again.

Fellowship Examination Fee

The fee is to be paid in two parts through the fellowship page of ISDT website:
  • Part I Registration Fee: ₹ 3000 + GST (Payable during Part I exam registration)
  • Part II Examination Fee: ₹ 7000 + GST (Payable during Part II exam registration by candidates who qualify Part I)

Certification and Conferment

  • Successful candidates will be conferred the title “Fellow of Indian Society of Dental Traumatology (FISDT)”.
  • Fellowship certificates will be formally awarded during the Valedictory Function of the ISDT National Conference held in that calendar year.
  • Names of fellows will be published on the official ISDT website and shared across social media platforms.

Code of Conduct

All fellows are expected to:
  • Adhere to the highest standards of professional ethics.
  • Maintain active participation in ISDT initiatives and events.
  • Serve as mentors and ambassadors of dental trauma excellence.
